ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN
Ireland's First Survivor-Led Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign
Survivors reveal the reality of breast cancer to help save lives.
1 in 7 Women and 1 in 738 men being diagnosed in their lifetime.

Breast Cancer Ireland has launched Breast Cancer KNOW MORE, a bold and survivor-led awareness campaign marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October. For the first time in Ireland, survivors are stepping into the spotlight to share their voices, their stories, and their bodies—highlighting the importance of knowing the 8 signs and symptoms of breast cancer and driving home the life-saving message of early detection.
Supported by Novartis, the campaign features powerful black-and-white portraits and videos of five women and one man who have lived through breast cancer. These raw, emotive images capture both their courage and their determination to ensure others detect breast cancer early.
Every year in Ireland, more than 3,700 women are diagnosed with breast cancer, and 1 in 7 women (1 in 738 men) will develop the disease in their lifetime. While survival rates continue to improve, early detection remains the single most effective way to save lives. KNOW MORE empowers people to check themselves monthly and to understand that breast cancer can present in many ways—not just as a lump.
Despite significant progress in research, education, and awareness, breast cancer remains Ireland’s most common cancer. An estimated 730 lives are lost each year, with metastatic breast cancer still one of the greatest challenges for research and treatment. The disease does not discriminate—it affects women and men of all ages.
“This campaign is about cutting through the noise with a message that cannot be ignored,” says Aisling Hurley, CEO of Breast Cancer Ireland. “Our brave Patient Ambassadors have placed themselves front and centre, sharing the physical and emotional impact of breast cancer in order to empower others to check themselves regularly. Early detection saves lives, and this campaign ensures more people have the knowledge they need to act quickly.”
More people are surviving breast cancer than ever before—22% of all cancer survivors in Ireland are breast cancer survivors. But there is still more to do. Together, we can reach a future where no life is lost to this disease and achieve our ultimate goal:
