Diagnosed at age 40 with DCIS / Triple Negative
SCROLL
"My scar saved my life. I hope it saves yours too."

I was diagnosed on March 20th with DCIS in my right breast. It’s still unknown if we have lymph node issues as they are concerned about them, but they’re negative on biopsy.

I have a big family history of breast cancer so I’ve always been very aware and check regularly – probably too often. After I had my second son three years ago, I was having some issues with an inverted nipple so my gp sent me to James’s to check it out. After a mammogram they were happy to discharge me, but in 2024 I received some forms in the post because of the family risk. They wanted me to start having yearly mammograms from the age of 40.

Fast forward to my 40th birthday and I was dressing to go for dinner with my husband and three small boys (2,3 & 4) and found a lump.

I genuinely thought it was just hormones so thought nothing of it. Few days later it was still there, so off to the gp I went and she sent off the referral again.

I was seen very quickly and the doctor I saw said he thought all was ok but we’d do a mammogram anyway. Two days later I got a call asking me to come in the following morning. I did and had another mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy.

I’ve been diagnosed but we have no plan as of yet whether we will do surgery or chemo first. A CT & MRI along with a bone scan will determine how we proceed. I will be having a mastectomy though, that much I do know.

I am unbelievably positive because I’ve three babies I need to get better for. I’ve already started sharing posts online to my friends & family so they know the signs and symptoms because not everyone gets a lump – my lump turned out to be absolutely nothing.
